BRISBANE FESTIVAL
4-25 September 2010

Brisbane Festival is one of Australia’s premier festivals and Brisbane's annual cultural event.

Brisbane Festival was developed by the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council in 1996 as an initiative to foster the arts.

The Festival evolved from Brisbane’s Warana Festival, first held in 1961. Warana, meaning blue skies, was the beginning of Arts Festivals in Queensland. In these early festival days, a trip to the Queensland ballet cost 10 shillings, the Grand Parade of floats down the city-streets was a major event and the festival was a celebration of Spring and the city’s cultural activities. The theme of the Warana Festival was "entertainment for the people, by the people". Over the years regular Warana features varied, but included a drama festival and eisteddfod, a writers' week, a George Street Colonial Fair, a Miss Warana Pageant and various religious, sporting and other outdoors activities.

Brisbane Festival was held as a biennial festival from 1996 to 2008 and an annual festival from 2009.   Tony Gould was the Artistic Director from 1996-2004 and Lyndon Terracini was the Artistic Director from 2006-2009.  In 2010, Noel Staunton was appointed as the Artistic Director.

In 2009, Brisbane Festival combined with the former Riverfestival to make it Brisbane’s annual festival.

SYDNEY FRINGE FESTIVAL
From 10 September to 26 September

The Sydney Fringe is a look underneath to the urban and the unconventional.

A multidiscipline cultural showcase that throws you from theatre to gaming to music and to food, the Fringe offers our audience the thrill of discovery and the opportunity to experience independent new works that are tangible and authentic. The Fringe is irreverent, an alliance of rebels, an alternative to the traditional and conservative.

We offer ideas that are busting up through the underground, ready to be the next curious thing peering at you from around the corner. We are everchanging and surprising, an engaging festival for the next wave of artists and audiences.

Powered by 800,000 watts of sound and containing close to 10,000 pounds of high definition video technology, it will blow fans away!

Having sold more than 120 million albums and performed more than 2,600 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans, Bon Jovi is at their best when they’re on the move, and that’s truer now than ever before. The November 10th, 2009 release of Bon Jovi’s new album, The Circle, and the band’s subsequent world tour, provides a powerful reassertion of Bon Jovi’s commitment to the hard-hitting rock & roll that has been the band’s indelible signature since it began more than 26 years ago.

Bon Jovi has established themselves as one of the world's most dynamic live rock acts, Jon Bon Jovi said recently “I put out as much for 50 people as I will for 60,000. You want to be great every night. Every time you step in front of the microphone and pick up a guitar you want to be the best that you can be”.

GORILLAZ WORLD TOUR 2010

December 6th - Perth
December 8th - Adelaide
December 11th - Melbourne
December 16th - Sydney
December 19th - Brisbane

Gorillaz are set to take their Plastic Beach around the world later this year. The band have today confirmed they will play 20 shows in North America (including their first ever show at Madison Square Garden) 10 nights across Europe including 2 nights at London’s 02 Arena before heading to Asia and down under for 7 shows.

Gorillaz fanclub, the Sub Division, will benefit from pre-sale ahead of tickets going on general sale.

This is Gorillaz first world tour. The previously announced tour will now become part of the "Escape to Plastic Beach" World Tour, with the live shows moving from September into November to include an additional show at the Brighton Centre and Antwerp Lotto.

Conceived as the first "virtual hip-hop group," Gorillaz blended the musical talents of Dan "The Automator" Nakamura, Blur's Damon Albarn, Cibo Matto's Miho Hatori, and Tom Tom Club's Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz with the arresting visuals of Jamie Hewlett, best known as the creator of the cult comic Tank Girl. Nakamura's Deltron 3030 cohorts Kid Koala and Del tha Funkee Homosapien rounded out the creative team behind the Gorillaz quartet, whose virtual members included 2-D, the cute but spacy singer/keyboardist; Murdoc, the spooky, possibly Satanic bassist and the brains behind the group; Russel, a drummer equally inspired by "Farrakhan and Chaka Khan" and possessed by "funkyphantoms" that occasionally rise up and provide some zombie-style rapping; and last but not least, Noodle, a ten-year-old Japanese guitar virtuosa and martial arts master.

The group's website, www.gorillaz.com, showcased Hewlett's visuals and the group's music in eye- and ear-catching detail.
